*Notes* These packs vary WIDELY in appearance/function. Colour, straps, size and pouch cut shapes are all different. We have tried to show some of these variances in the photos for a rough reference. We strongly advise reading the description below and to expect some randomness with these rucksacks
For all those obsessed with everything World War 2, these rucksacks should look pretty familiar. The Wehrmacht came up with the M31 rucksack during WW2 but was never fully standardized. Straps were designed to hook onto a soldiers webbing but these were often heavily modified/varied. The German military was restarted in 1956 and it would seem these M31 'style' packs continued their ad-hoc supply habits and are just as disorganized in production. Some of these can hook into a WW2 style webbing belt, some can't - one thing they all do though is they can be worn stand alone. Some have stamps with dates (mostly in the 1950-60s) or not at all and some with movie production stamps on the inner side of the straps (still genuine surplus, just used as WW2 film prop stand ins).
These aren't the days of highspeed and low drag - more like near indestructible and utilitarian. Made from hard wearing cotton canvas and thick leather (some with canvas combination) straps, you will likely break before these will. A simple main compartment is accessed under the flap that is secured with a leather strap & buckle. Inside is a draw string that allows you to synch in the top to stop any snow sneaking in and secure your contents. Two pouches adorn the front on the outside of the rucksack which both are secured with buckled straps. The shoulder straps on these vary widely - some can be integrated with a German webbing belt, some have what seems like a bizarre quick release hook but regardless all of these should form at least a basic shoulder harness.
Original WW2 versions of these packs can cost a small fortune - these post war ones make for a close impression for any film projects, airsofters or reenactments at a distance. We won't likely get any more of these in a hurry!
