For all those obsessed with everything World War 2, these rucksacks should look pretty familiar. These ones in particular are what the German Gebirgsjäger (Mountain troops) were issued - only after the War. The post war years are somewhat hazy with a mix of equipment being utilized, but these rucksacks retain many of the features and appearances of their war time counterparts. The Bundeswehr were formed in 1956 so these would likely date near to then but will vary.
Sizeable packs for all nations during WW2 were fairly ad-hoc. The Germany infantry opted for the M31 rucksack which was a bit smaller - the Gebirgsjäger needed to pack much more equipment for their long isolated stays in the mountain tops. These aren't the days of highspeed and low drag - more like near indestructible and utilitarian. Made from hard wearing cotton canvas and thick leather straps, you will likely break before these will. A simple main compartment is accessed under the flap that is secured with 3 leather straps & buckles. Inside is a draw string that allows you to synch in the top to stop any snow sneaking in and secure your contents. A dual strapped and zippered pouch sits on the front for more quicker access items. The straps allow the rucksack to be worn stand alone but they also have the parts to integrate with WW2 era belt webbing.
Original WW2 versions of these packs can cost a small fortune - these post war ones make for a close impression for any film projects, airsofters or reenactments. We won't likely get any more of these in a hurry!
