The original M-1956 Load Carrying Equipment (LCE) became the standard system for the US Army from the 1950's to the '80's, though replacements started being issued during the '70's. Its design is general in nature to accommodate a variety of ammunition, small arms and field gear. The system we have here is based on the US M56 LCE but has been assembled with numerous components from different countries. We believe the pouches are Greek military (which were supplied by the US during the Vietnam War era) and the belt is Dutch. Nevertheless, this Frankenstein system will still complete the task of carrying field gear.

The system includes a belt and suspenders, two ammo pouches, a canteen cover, field pack (butt pack), entrenching tool cover and sleeping bag straps. Slide keepers (like ALICE clips) secure the pouches onto the belt with a close fit to reduce the 'bounce' effect. Three rows of eyelets line the belt for attaching individual equipment, utilising an M-1910 wire hanger. The field pack is a small canvas bag designed to carry a C-Ration pack and just a couple of personal items. Underneath the pack are straps to hold a poncho and poncho liner. An H-shaped arrangement of web straps are used to secure a sleeping bag above the field pack.

If you're in need of carrying some individual equipment, this is one affordable way to get a complete system. Or split the components up for your own specific needs. Carry a load of gear without spending a load of cash.
