The current flag of Iraq was adopted in 2008 but the basic tricolour was around since 1963. The text in the middle bears the takbir - 'God is greatest.' The red represents the bloody struggle for freedom and the Hashemite dynasty. The black stands for the Abbasid dynasty.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
