Description
Esbit was contracted by the German military to make these compact, personal stoves for their troops. The design originates from WWII, it simply opens to 90 degrees or half-way and fuel tablets are placed in the center. A billy pot or mess tin can be placed on top to boil water or heat food. Esbit fuel tablets (not included) will fit perfectly inside the stove for easy storage.
Still an ideal piece of cooking equipment for modern use, especially if you want to save space in your pack or prefer the minimalist style of hiking and camping. Alternatively, keep it for an emergency situation. Folds down into a tiny 9.7cm L x 7.3cm W x 2.1cm H, it could even fit in your pocket! A fine piece of German engineering.

Does the job, might need a few hexi fuel blocks to get some heat but it works great. These guys don't muck around with deliveries, items come much quicker than you think. You can grab 28 fuel blocks off ebay for about 20 bucks or so.

My cooker arrived in just a couple of days, the quality was better than expected, looked old but not used.
I tried it out with the tabs on this site, one tab was about enough to heat up a bit more than a cup of water till almost boiling, hot enough for soup etc. Tested outside with a light breeze.
Might not be such a good option for fully cooking a meal, you'd use a few tabs but I think it'll be good for heating my dehydrated meals, hot drinks and soup.
Looking forward to testing it on a trip and having a lighter pack!

There are lots of imitations around but this is a propper bit of gear. Strongly made with firm rivets to stop it collapsing, the tray on the base for the fuel tabs with air vents is a nice bit of design. Boil time for a canteen cup is noticibly slower than gas powered cookers, though this can be helped along by obtaining a cup cover or using tin foil. Being a small stove these are affected by the wind so think about shelter or, if you hike with an entrenching tool or small shovel, dig a 20cm square hole, use the turf as a wind break, put the cooker in the hole and cook, and then cover it back up when you finish. For the light weight and ease of transport, stability and robustness of fuel and good, predictable performance regardless of altitude, you can't beat an esbit. I ordered two of these for different packs and I will be ordering more soon. Great value for money.
