Coghlan's has produced this simple cost efficient fire starter. This piece of kit both provides fuel to help start a fire and the sparks to create it. Simply use a sharp knife to scrape across the magnesium to create some shavings on top of some kindling. Then scrape the length of the starter using the back of a knife to ignite the shavings. 

Small enough to fit in a pocket, these are a must have for any survival kit and great for camping.
