Equatorial Guinea adopted their current flag in 1979 after the deposition of the then ruling dictator. The flag features a tricolour of green, white and red with a blue triangle on the mast side. In the centre there are six stars, one representing the mainland and the other five islands, and the national coat of arms.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
