US Army M1945 Sleeping Bag Cover

Although designed at the end of World War 2, these 'M1945' sleeping bag covers were produced right up into the 1970's. These bags were designed to be 'water repellent' - enough to keep mud and moisture at bay and your sleeping bag clean (sleeping bag not included). The labels explain that they are deliberately not waterproof as all perspiration would condense inside the bag making it heavy and cold. It was intended that you should avoid deploying these under direct rainfall if possible while on the battlefield.

The front has a snap dome storm flap running from the ankles right up to the neck. Underneath this is a series of metal eyelets and a draw cord that runs all the way up and around the hoods opening. You can pull on this to form a 'full mummy' closure around your face for when it gets really cold. These sleeping bag covers would be ideal for camping in relatively dry conditions instead of a full on bivi bag as these are still breathable and able to keep your bag clean or dry from morning dew.
