Thermals are often times an overlooked method of reducing pack weight and they are universal. They can be worn scouting, around camp on chilled nights or early mornings and can act as a lightweight additional carry alternative to a sleeping bag insert, quilt or wool blanket. They also take the bitter chill out of the air on occasions when you have to get out of you sleeping bag in the middle of the night. I brought these and the German Freeze pants (and top). Both pants were in size XL 100cm, and 100-102cm respectively (website). I am size 2XL in pants (waist 46"-48") and while these just fit me, the German Freeze Pants are a little bigger and fit me perfectly. Both pants hug the skin firmly, as thermals should while not being too tight. These are a no frills pretty basic cotton thermal layer, but still useful for the right conditions. After testing them in winter I would rate them as an 'active' thermal layer suitable for mild wintry static or mobile conditions down to around the lower + C's.
